Getting Started

  • Before you begin
  • Folding Your Cup
  • Insertion and Removal
  • Care and Cleansing

    • Step One.

      Sanitize your Cup

Before using your DivaCup for the first time, sanitize in a pot of boiling water for 5-10 minutes.

Tip: To prevent damaging your DivaCup should you forget it's boiling, place your cup inside a metal whisk. This will keep your DivaCup from touching the bottom of the pot.

    • Step Two.

Learn how to fold your DivaCup

There are two folds we recommend: The U-Fold and the Push-Down Fold. Both are easy to master and suitable for beginners.

    • U-Fold

Flatten your DivaCup, and pinch it in half to create a U-shape.

    • Push-Down Fold

Hold the top rim of your DivaCup. With your index finger on the edge, push the rim down into the centre of the cup base to create a triangle.

    • Step Three.

Wash your hands and get comfortable.

While sitting on the toilet, or standing with one leg up on the bathtub, gently separate your labia with your free hand.

Take a deep breath and relax your pelvic floor muscles.

    • Insert

Hold the folded cup between your thumb and forefinger and push the curved edge of the folded cup into your vagina horizontally.

    • Rotate

Once the DivaCup is in your vagina, grip the base of the cup (not the stem), and turn the cup one complete rotation—360 degrees. This will create a leakproof seal.

    • When it's time to empty your DivaCup

Wash your hands. Pinch the base of your DivaCup to release the seal. Never pull your cup by the base without first releasing the seal. You can keep the cup pinched while gently easing it out, and empty your flow into the toilet, sink, or shower.

    • Step Four.

Wash your hands, wash your cup

Before insertion and after removal, wash your DivaCup with a mild, unscented, oil-free soap like Diva Wash.

    • Store it

Always use the cotton pouch to store your DivaCup between cycles. Keep your DivaCup away from perfumes and never store it in an airtight container

FAQs

Discoloration of your cup will vary and will depend on the uniqueness of each person’s flow. Rest assured, a discolored cup will not impair the functionality of the cup.

As the DivaCup is a personal hygiene product, we recommend that you inspect your cup regularly for signs of deterioration such as a sticky or powdery film, severe discolouration or odor, etc. If you detect any of these signs, or if you experience irritation, we recommend you replace your DivaCup with a new one.

Depending on factors such as vaginal pH, how well and often the cup is cleaned, what cleansing agents are used, etc., the lifespan may vary. Our general guideline is a Diva Cup can last up to 5 years, but ultimately, it is up to the consumer to decide when it is necessary to replace the cup.

It can take some time to get the hang of insertion and removal. However, the vaginal canal is an elastic, muscular tube only about four (4) – five (5) inches (10.2 – 12.7 cm) long – there is nowhere for the DivaCup to get “lost” inside you, as the vagina does not connect to other parts of the body.

When inserted correctly, the DivaCup should sit low at the base of the canal, away from the cervix, making it possible for you to reach the stem and grip the base to remove it. Making sure you keep your muscles relaxed for removal is key!

We recommend at the end of each cycle, the DivaCup may be submerged in an open pan of boiling water (continuous rolling boil) for 5-10 minutes.

Do not leave the boiling pot unattended and use enough water so that the pan does not boil dry. Please know that boiling is not “mandatory” it’s just a recommendation.

Some consumers do not boil their cups at all, as regular cleaning with soap and water can be sufficient to maintain the integrity of the silicone.
