Why should I boil my DIVA™ Disc before I use it for the first time?

Boiling your DIVA™ Disc when you first take it out of the packaging removes any residue from the manufacturing process and ensures the cup is properly sterilized before you use it. You can boil your cup before every cycle if you wish, but it's not mandatory. Regular cleaning with warm water and a mild, oil- and fragrance-free soap will keep your DIVA™ Disc in good condition.

*REMINDER!* Never leave the boiling pot unattended! If the water evaporates in the pot, your DIVA™ Disc can burn.

TIP 1

Do you have hard water?

If you’re in an area with hard water, use distilled water when boiling your DIVA™ Disc. This helps keep it clean and prevents mineral buildup.

TIP 2

Choose the right pot

Stick to a stainless steel pot when boiling your DIVA™ Disc—non-stick pots can leave a residue.

TIP 3

Have you seen the whisk hack?

Stick your DIVA™ Disc in a metal whisk while boiling so it doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot. It prevents your cup from burning by keeping it fully submerged.

TIP 4

How to reduce staining

While staining itself isn't a safety concern, there are ways you can prevent them from forming. First, rinse flow from your DIVA™ Disc with cold water. Then, wash with warm water and a mild cleanser like DIVA™ Wash. Regular cleansing helps to extend the life of your cup!

  • Vinegar
  • Tea tree oil
  • Scented or oil-based soaps
  • Glycerin
  • Essential oils
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Antibacterial soap
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Baking soda
  • Pre-moistened wipes
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Dish soap/detergent
  • Bleach
  • Lubricants
  • Any harsh chemicals

At the end of your cycle, make sure to thoroughly clean, rinse, and completely dry your menstrual disc. Store your DIVA Disc in its cotton pouch, away from strongly scented items. This helps keep your disc in great condition and preserves its integrity.

A few tips to make things easier:

1. Relaxation:

Take a few deep breaths. Tension in your body (and pelvic floor!) can make insertion trickier. A relaxed body makes a big difference.

2. Find a comfortable position:

Sitting on the toilet or standing with one leg raised can help you find the angle that works best for you.

3. Add a little moisture if needed:

Running your DIVA™ Disc under water before insertion can help it glide in easier.

4. Aim back, not up:

Insert the DIVA™ Disc at a slight downward angle toward your tailbone rather than vertically.

5. You shouldn't feel it:

When positioned correctly, the DIVA™ Disc should feel completely comfortable.

6. Give yourself time:

Be patient—the first few tries can feel tricky.

7. Your body, your pace:

If it feels uncomfortable, pause, reset, and try again later.

With a little patience and practice, most people find that insertion gets easier over time. If you’re still having trouble, we're here to help. Email us at support@divacup.com for personalized tips and guidance.
