Why should I boil my DIVA™ Cup before I use it for the first time?

Boiling your DIVA™ Cup when you first take it out of the packaging removes any residue from the manufacturing process and ensures the cup is properly sterilized before you use it. You can boil your cup before every cycle if you wish, but it's not mandatory. Regular cleaning with warm water and a mild, oil- and fragrance-free soap will keep your DIVA™ Cup in good condition.

*REMINDER!* Never leave the boiling pot unattended! If the water evaporates in the pot, your DIVA™ Cup can burn.

TIP 1

Do you have hard water?

If you’re in an area with hard water, use distilled water when boiling your DIVA™ Cup. This helps keep it clean and prevents mineral buildup.

TIP 2

Choose the right pot

Stick to a stainless steel pot when boiling your DIVA™ Cup—non-stick pots can leave a residue.

TIP 3

Have you seen the whisk hack?

Stick your DIVA™ Cup in a metal whisk while boiling so it doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot. It prevents your cup from burning by keeping it fully submerged.

TIP 4

How to reduce staining

While staining itself isn't a safety concern, there are ways you can prevent them from forming. First, rinse flow from your DIVA™ Cup with cold water. Then, wash with warm water and a mild cleanser like DIVA™ Wash. Regular cleansing helps to extend the life of your cup!

TIP 5

What are those tiny holes for?

These tiny air holes help seal your DIVA™ Cup! To make sure they stay clear, run your DIVA™ Cup under warm water and either gently stretch each hole or squeeze water through them.

Why won't my menstrual cup go in?

This is a common question, and it usually comes down to a few simple things:

1. Relaxation:

Tension in your pelvic muscles can make insertion more difficult. Try taking a few deep breaths: as you inhale, let your belly expand, and as you exhale, relax your pelvic floor muscles (like that ‘ahh’ feeling when you finally get to pee after holding it). Repeat this a few times and focus on keeping your shoulders relaxed and down while breathing.

2. Folding technique:

Using a fold that works best for your body can make a big difference. Experiment to see which feels easiest.

3. Angle of insertion:

The DIVA™ Cup isn’t inserted vertically—it actually follows the natural angle of your vagina, which is usually slightly toward your tailbone.

4. Lubrication:

Running your DIVA™ Cup under warm water before insertion can soften the silicone and add natural lubrication, while cold water can firm it up so it opens more easily once inside.

5. Body position:

Your position can make a big difference with insertion. Try inserting your DIVA™ Cup while sitting on the toilet, or standing with one leg raised on the tub or toilet seat. Different positions can help relax your muscles and improve the angle for insertion.

With a little patience and practice, most people find that insertion gets easier over time. If you’re still having trouble, we're here to help. Email us at support@divacup.com for personalized tips and guidance.
